Welcome to Joseph Clarke Photography!  I’m a photographer based in Sheffield focused on weddings, events, portraiture, pets and live music.

Whether its capturing the subtle moments of joy at a wedding, the cheeky and highly energetic personality of a dog that simply won’t sit still or even snaking through a jostling crowd at a concert, being behind a camera is where I feel most at home.

Whilst at school my favourite subject was art, then I got into rock music attending live shows when I could.  As time went on I became interested in photography and went on to study it at Sheffield Hallam University gaining a 2:1 grade.  I used this period to combine my two interests music and photography by immersing myself on the local music scene.  I honed my skills in low level lighting and highly energetic environments looking out for moments during the performances and along the way learned how to network and lease with people something that helped me overcome my initial shyness a helpful method for someone on the autistic spectrum.

After uni I spent three and a half years backpacking around Australia and New Zealand (the trip was supposed to be seven months there).  Placed within my rucksack was of course a camera in which I documented the places I visited, the people and dogs I met, the events and gatherings and on one occasion  I set up a makeshift Photo Booth one Halloween and on more than one occasion would earn myself a few free beers.

Returning to Sheffield following these incredible experiences I looked at turning my passions into full time work until a certain virus paused my many dreams and ambitions (I wasn’t the only one there), however my time was put to good use learning new skills and furthering my understanding of both technical and business knowledge.

 As restrictions lifted I found myself a photography residency in town centre in Sheffield as well as a local recording label promoting artists and a local business but when the opportunity came to photograph a  wedding of a friends mate I jumped at the chance.

Using all the skills I’d learned over the years I turned to capturing the special moments of love and joy for someone’s big day, capturing the little details, (from the decorations to the rings, bouquets and cufflinks to memorial lockets) with the intent of creative nostalgia.  Providing couples with everlasting memories of their special day is a privilege and means a lot, a far cry from the flashing lights and a jumping crowd.
